Concurrent Engineering Research Center (CERC),

West Virginia University, Morgantown, West Virginia

Lambdanets is collaborating with CERC in the areas of health informatics, collaborative technologies, and concurrent engineering practices.

CERC has extensive R&D experience over the last fifteen years under the sponsorship of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), National Library of Medicine (NLM/National Institutes of Health), the Department of Energy (DOE) and teaming arrangements with giant corporations such as General Electric (GE).

Projects totaling over $60M.

DARPA Initiative on Concurrent Engineering (DICE) is a $100 million project to develop technologies and processes for concurrent engineering.  CERC was the prime on the contract with GE Central Research and Development with equal funding split.  Under this project CERC has developed, in the ‘80s, collaborative technologies such as, meeting on the Internet, information sharing, and large-scale database systems.  They also developed processes for concurrent engineering in a manufacturing environment.

CERC has undertaken major healthcare projects including one funded by the National Library of Medicine, part of National Institutes of Health (NIH).  Under this approximately $20 million project, CERC pioneered in early ‘90s, internet-based healthcare delivery; developed advanced IT architectures, prototyped, and deployed the first internet-based healthcare delivery system successfully in the rural tri-state areas of West Virginia, Kentucky, and Ohio.

These projects include development and application of advanced IT technologies for remote diagnostics, consultation, and healthcare delivery.  IT technologies included, internet distributed computing, large-scale databases, multimedia, collaborative technologies, SMART Cards, etc.
